Quick Summary
A drop-off (one-way) fee may apply when you return the car to a different location than you picked it up.
Fees are route-specific and vary by rental company, cities/airports, dates/season, and vehicle class.
Hola Car Rentals site will always show the drop-off/one-way fee during the booking process under the "To pay at destination" section. Your booking confirmation will show this fee as well.
This fee can NOT be prepaid and is not covered by No Extra Charges© Coverage (Unless the fee was not disclosed on the website or your booking confirmation).
What It Is (and Isn’t)
What it is: A one-time charge set by the rental partner to reposition the vehicle between locations.
What it isn’t: It is not mileage, fuel, tolls, or a tax by itself (though it’s usually taxable locally).
When a Drop-Off Fee Usually Applies
Different return location (airport→city or city→airport, or between different cities).
Long-distance routes or remote locations with limited fleet supply.
Certain vehicle classes (premium/exotic/large SUVs) that are costlier to reposition.
Cross-border one-ways: often restricted or not permitted (e.g., US↔CA or ES↔PT depends on partner rules) and, when allowed, may carry higher fees.
Typical Patterns (so you can plan)
Same-city airport ↔ downtown: often no drop-off/one-way fee.
City A ↔ City B in the same region/state: often drop-off/one-way fee. Fee varies by distance and car class.
City A ↔ City B in different regions/states: Usually there is a drop-off/one-way fee. Fee varies by distance and car class.
Cross-country / remote areas / islands: frequently not permitted or carry high fees if allowed.
IMPORTANT: Not all routes involving picking-up the car and dropping it off at a different City/State incur a drop-off/one-way fee. (e.g A route like Pick-up in MIA (Miami Airport) Drop-off (MCO) due to its short distance, doesn't incur a drop-off/one-way fee. This is only an example.)
How It Appears on Hola Car Rentals
- When making a booking you will see this fee listed on the details page of the rate selected, not on the results page.
- The fee is listed as "Drop-Off Fee" and it will be shown under the "To pay at destination" section of the checkout screen.
- Any taxes that are related to this fee will also be shown under the "To pay at destination" section as well.
If no one-way is shown (same pick-up and drop-off OR the different pick-up and drop-off does not incur in drop-off/one-way fee ), no drop-off/one-way fee should appear.
Step-by-Step (Booking & Pick-Up)
During search/checkout: Select your different return location; the system prices the route and shows whether the drop-off/one-way fee applies and it will be listed on the "To pay at destination" section.
After booking: Review your confirmation for the line above and make sure it matches with what you saw during booking process.
At pick-up: Verify the drop-off/one-way fee matches your confirmation
If the desk adds a different fee than your confirmation: complete pick-up, keep paperwork, then contact support. No Extra Charges© can help if an undisclosed, non-optional fee was added.
Changes After Booking (Important)
Changing return location, dates, or vehicle class can reprice your rental and recalculate the drop-off fee.
Mid-rental route changes must be approved by the partner location and may add or increase the fee.
Examples (illustrative)
Drop-off/one-way fee applies: Details page and Confirmation shows “Drop-Off Fee" under the "To pay at destination" section.
Common Mistakes (and How to Avoid Them)
Assuming all routes are drop-off/one-way free: Always check the "To pay at destination" section to confirm whether your route incurs or not in one drop-off/one-way fee.
Changing the route last-minute: Expect repricing and potentially higher fees or no availability.
Confusing the fee with fuel/tolls: The drop-off fee is separate (but typically taxed).
Short FAQ
Is the drop-off fee included in All Inclusive/All Inclusive+?
No. This fee is never included; If during booking the fee is not visible, it means there is not a drop-off/one-way fee for your route. Otherwise, it will be listed on the "To pay at destination" section
Does unlimited mileage remove the drop fee?
No. Mileage and drop fees are independent. Unlimited mileage does not waive any fees.
What if the desk charges a higher fee than my confirmation?
Keep the contract and receipt and contact support. No Extra Charges© can help resolve or reimburse after verification.
