Quick Summary
Some Hola Car Rentals rates include one free additional driver; others do not and a daily fee may apply at pick-up.
Only named drivers on the rental agreement are covered by protections (e.g., CDW/LDW, LIS/ALI/SLI, Roadside). This excludes Travel Insurance provided by our premium partner Terrawind.
Your Hola Car Rentals confirmation shows if an additional driver is Included on the rate you selected.
When It’s Included
The rate or package explicitly states “Additional driver” or “Additional driver free of charge”.
Only the first additional driver is included, if you would like to add more, you will need to pay a daily fee at the counter that may vary depending on each rental company.
When It’s Not Included
A per-day or per-rental fee applies (amount varies by location/partner):
Avis, Budget and Payless: $13 per rental day plus taxes - Max charge of $65 plus taxes
Hertz, Thrifty, Dollar $13,5 per rental day plus taxes - Max charge of $189 plus taxes
Alamo, National Enterprise $15 per day plus taxes
The fee could be taxable locally and is paid at the counter.
Some locations/vehicle classes may have higher fees or restrictions. Always confirm conditions with rental representatives at counter.
Requirements (Apply in All Cases)
Presence at pick-up: The additional driver must be present to show a valid driver’s license and sign the agreement.
Age rules: Must meet the minimum age requirements for the destination selected. If minimum age is not met, counter location could deny the additional driver or a young-driver surcharge may apply.
ID & documents: Additional drivers must meet the same document requirements.
Match the agreement: If someone drives who isn’t listed, coverage may be void and charges may apply.
For Avis, Budget and Payless, the additional driver should be at least 25 years old at the moment of the pick up.
How to Add an Additional Driver (Step-by-Step)
Check your email confirmation → look for “Additional driver free of charge”.
At the counter → make sure the additional is present and that they carry their driver’s license with them (and proof of ID if requested) and ask the agent to add them to the agreement.
Review charges → if not included, confirm the daily fee, taxes, and whether the fee is capped for long rentals.
Signatures → both the main driver and the additional driver must sign the rental agreement.
Keep the contract → verify the additional driver’s name appears on your paperwork.
Need to add someone later? Visit a branch to update the agreement. Phone or chat alone usually isn’t enough.
Conditions & Limits (Read Carefully)
Number of drivers: Hola Car Rentals Inclusion is limited to one; extra drivers beyond that will incur fees.
Vehicle classes: Premium/exotic/commercial classes can have stricter rules in terms of minimum age, daily fee, etc.
Territory rules: Some regions have specific requirements or exceptions—always follow your confirmation and rental agreement.
Duration & timing: Fees may be per day; adding a driver late in the rental may still trigger a minimum charge.
Common Mistakes (and How to Avoid Them)
Assuming it’s included: Always check the rate details before you book.
Letting an unnamed person drive: If they’re not on the contract, protections may be invalid.
Forgetting the IDP: Some renters need an IDP in addition to their license—check requirements in advance.
Skipping the signature: If the additional driver didn’t sign, they’re not covered.
Short FAQ
Is my spouse or partner automatically free?
